Music & Super Light Show all Weekend by DJ Frozen Fresh
Lowire is a power duo made up of the rhythm section from Port Townsend party band, Lucius Clay. Sean Mugrage on bass and vocals, and Frank DePalma on drums create multi-layered funk and rock grooves. This dynamic two-man jam band blends traditional instrumentation with electronica for a truly unique sound.
Hailed from all reaches of the country, the members of TBH were hand selected in 2006 to form the ultimate wedding/party band. With over a century of musical experience compiled between individual band mates, TBH has formed into a tightly knit, finely tuned musical experience. Members of the Better Half have shared stages with everyone from Little Feat and Prince to Los Lobos and Willie Nelson.
Our mission as a band is simple: To provide you and your guests with high quality danceable music to make your wedding/party an event to be remembered by all.
ELDRIDGE GRAVY & THE COURT SUPREME is a funk juggernaut. Backed by the hot, gritty orchestration of the 12 member Court Supreme, frontman Eldridge Gravy easily works dance floors to a fever pitch with his full-bore performance and smooth rapport with the audience.
The band, like so many of its members, is the product of a wonderful accident. Early in 2006, in what was supposed to be a one-off event, an instrumental band teamed up with a guest singer to learn some James Brown and Parliament covers for a moving-out party. The next morning, the house was torn up, shattered glass lay about, tables were broken, and the landlord was on his way for the final walk-through. In the wake of this carnage, ELDRIDGE GRAVY && THE COURT SUPREME was born.
The group quickly picked up horns, keys, backup singers, and were soon 12 men and women strong. The originals that soon replaced covers were a viscous blend of the songs they cut their teeth on -- Sly and The Family Stone, Funkadelic, and James Brown are touchstones for their sound, but Eldridge Gravy has a distinct sound and persona that's unmistakably their own. While ELDRIDGE GRAVY & THE COURT SUPREME fit in with the recent soul revival heralded by Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, they have also played alongside hip hop crews, balkan brass groups, and scuzzy bar rock bands. Their high energy, tight arrangements, and massive stage presence have the power to convince any crowd that funk ain't dead.
Yogoman hails from the planet Yog, where its inhabitants create ridiculous, quirky, and uninhibited dance moves on the regular. Yogoman landed in the Pacific Northwest finding a willing human vessel through Washington State's own Jordan Rain, currently a Bellingham restident. Rain formed Yogoman Burning Band (YBB) in 2006 to fire up the often subdued, dark and dank corner of the USA, lighting up crowds of all-ages and taking it to the streets with their infectious and engaging ska/soul brass band style.
Raised in the Jet City, Rain came up through Seattle's underground all-ages music scene in the 90's which brought about NW favorites such as - Modest Mouse, Murder City Devils, KARP, the Blood Brothers, and Behead The Prophet NLSL, which Rain played drums in. Being a generally intimate climate for experiencing music and culture, the Do It Yourself/all-ages music scene tends to instill a value of removing barriers between audience, entertainers and the industry, making it a community process, which Rain has gladly taken with him to Yogoman Burning Band. YBB invites their audiences/fans/friends to engage with their music through dance and personal connection.
YBB has toured with Iron and Wine, collaborated/improvised live with Pato Banton, Junior Reid, Geologic of the Blue Scholars, Winstrong, and many independent M.C.'s and instrumentalists, while sharing the stage with Jamaica's legendary Skatalites, Clinton Fearon (of the Gladiators), Camper Van Beethoven, RJD2, the Cave Singers, Helio Sequence, Dengue Fever and Orgone. YBB has built a strong name for themselves down the West Coast USA, and becoming internationally recognized for their unique musical experience.
Polyrhythmic Awarded "Best New Band in Seattle 2011" by Seattle Magazine Dec.2011 "If you close your eyes real tight while listening to Polyrhythmics' first full-length, this June's Labrador, you can transport yourself to a world with more color, more spice and more soul - basically just an all-around better world - than the one you're living in."
Maggie Summers - Willamette Week - Portland, OR 11.11.11 "Take a polished, modern brand of funk, flavor it with a little Afrobeat swagger and Latin rhythm, and inject a spirited, powerhouse horn section and youíve got Polyrhythmics."
Ben Salmon - Bend Bulletin -Bend, OR 10.17.11 Polyrhythmics is an all original 8-piece afro-funk and world beat orchestra . The music is a fusion of styles from all over the world, featuring unique, forward thinking arrangements, stellar improvisation, heavy grooves, and dynamic interplay. Polyrhythmics have quickly gained notoriety playing to packed clubs and festival crowds all over the Northwest. Their self-titled, and now sold-out EP released in 2010, has been charting on radio playlists up and down the west coast.
After a year of further developing their distinct sound, the band recorded their first full-length album. The resulting "Labrador" is a 9-song powerhouse full of brooding dance grooves, and catchy layered horn melodies. "Labrador" debuted internationally on June 1st 2011 to critical acclaim and established a place at the ever crowded funk table for this fast-moving , powerhouse of a band.
DJ's worldwide, have been clamoring for a vinyl release from Polyrhythmics, and on 11.11.11 , the band released their 1st 45rpm 7-inch record on the Kept Records label. This non-stop dance floor banger features special arrangements of the song "Imposter" on the A side , and the live show favorite "Klompton" on the B-side.
Drawing from modern influences such as the Budos Band and The Whitefield Brothers as well as their original influences, Fela Kuti, and James Brown, "Labrador" is a shining example of the chemistry between these 8 talented performers and why, in a seemingly endless sea of new funk bands, Polyrhythmics is the band everyone is talking about.
TapWater are a six-piece Americana group based in Portland, Oregon, slowly but surely building their reputation through a series of well received releases and a busy concert schedule. Such is their growing status, their latest album, "Too Dark To Blink" has attracted various high profile guest turns, including several members of Los Lobos. Indeed, Steve Berlin produces and plays saxophone and melotron. Not two instruments that are naturally associated with an Americana band, but when you consider that frontman Rudy Slizewski also contributes steel drums, xylophone, trombone and marimba, and other listed instruments include lap harp and flugelhorn, itís probably best to chuck those stereotypical expectations out of the window.
Thanks to Berlinís production (and the bandís experience) itís somewhat remarkable that "Too Dark To Blink" doesnít ever feel cluttered or clumsy. The sound is full and rounded, and the variety of instruments is beautifully judged. When the steel drum makes an appearance on "Drownin' Without Love" itís a genuine moment of joy, and they repeat the trick on "See Ya Maria", though itís mixed gently with lead guitar. Tracks like "Frankie Leigh" and "Big Belly Blues" make comparisons with early Wilco and The Band fully justified and the short but very serious, almost classical, "With My Curtains Closed" indicates a band willing to take on anything, and able enough to prevail. Recommended.
The Roadside Woodcarver (Pemco Insurance commercial), Steve Backus, and (back by popular demand) nationally known, Pat McVay will be demonstrating their artistic skills during daylight hours both Saturday and Sunday.
